Taupo Team Takes Honours

The poular Taupo team of Phillip Burrows (sk)/Colin Light/David Beck took out the major honours in the annual Summerset Golden Oldies two-day triples tournament during the week on the Harcourts Taupo Bowling Club greens. One of the Taupo club’s most dedicated trio were unbeaten in the post section play in taking the title with 3 wins, 42 points, and 18 winning ends, to wrest their first major tournament success and were overjoyed to be presented with the tournament trophy! W.Parker/B.Godber/L.Fitness of Omarunui, Hawke’s Bay 3/39/23 took the second prize with C.Marshall/R.Scott/J.Denton (Omarunui) taking third.

Joe Hunn/Heather Leyland /Lyn Hunn (Havelock North) 3 wins/59 points were the winners of the plate section where B.Wakeley/M.Williams/J.Cornish (Omarunui) 2/39 won the second prize and the Taupo combination of Marlene Jordan/Annie Judge/Verona Billing 2/38 took the third prize.

The tournament attracted 20 teams and was contested in perfect weather conditions over the two days. Five of the teams were from Omarunui (Hawke’s Bay), nine from Taupo and one each from Reporoa, Tokoroa, Taruranga and Havelock North as well as a combined team.

The club championships resume on Saturday and Sunday with the round robin and finals of the men’s triples for 2021/22.
