If there was ever any doubt about the future success of Taupo lawn bowls then that doubt would have to be totally dispelled by the very high standard of talent in the ‘on-green’ actions displayed by the first-year club championship singles held recently on the Harcourt’s Taupo Bowling Club greens!
The women’s final between Patrice Senior and Jill Lloyd revealed those skilled bowls with Patrice emerging as the champion in displaying clever and consistent draw bowls.
The men’s final was just as impressive and after a great duel between Richard Shearer and another promising bowler in Robbie Dymock, Richard won his way through to take the championship honours.
A keenly interested spectator gallery recently witnessed a thrilling men’s two-bowl triples championship final that saw Steve Lee (sk)/Jim Fitzsimons/Rick Whittaker edge out Joe Rowen (sk)/Rusty Petterson/Ron Bailey on the centre rink to take the title.
The closeness and impressive skills of the bowlers often had the gallery on edge until the Steve Lee skipped side won 15-14 in a contest more than worthy of a classic final. Not a great deal could separate the teams for much of the match! For winning youthful skip Steve Lee it was another proud moment!
