Each team plays four doubles matches.

Shield Competition

Tremains Shield night is an in-house competition run during term 4 and term 1 (summer) for club members only, on Wednesday nights starting at 6pm.  The format is fast four, with a tie breaker at 3 all, and a super tie breaker at 1 set all. The nights are generally finished by 8.30 -9pm, with the bar being open to cool off after your matches and catch up with other players.
There are 5 teams of 6 players, ranked from 1 – 6.  Players in the top 4 play a singles and doubles, players 5 and 6 play two matches of doubles. With this format all matches are intensely competitive, with all levels of players being challenged.  Juniors are welcome to test their ability as well.
The beauty of having 5 teams is that one team has a bye each week and can be used for reserves if needed.  There is also a list of players who are unable to commit to weekly play and can also be used as reserves.
We also have the ability to challenge someone ranked higher than you if you feel you would like to move up the ranking table.
Thanks to our main sponsor Tremains Real Estate, we have good quality balls (Slazenger) each week.  Also other sponsors, such as Wairakei International Hotel, Mark Redgate, Qualified IT, and Flooring Design have enabled us to have an awesome prize giving at the end of the series.
Interested players need to contact Marta 027 564 8122 or Andy 027 597 3535 to register their interest.

Rotorua Bell Challenge

Sandra Cutler Memorial Bell

An annual fixture between Taupo & Rotorua midweek players.

The ‘Bell’ was donated by Lindsay Cutler and his late wife Sandra, so it is quite special to all involved. At primary school in Palmerston North, Sandra was a bell monitor and on her retirement after many years as a teacher at the same school, she was presented with the old school bell.

After retirement Sandra and Lyndsay Cutler played tennis together at the Rotorua Tennis Club until Sandra passed away in 2014. On moving to the Taupo Tennis Club, Lyndsay engraved and donated the bell to be played for as a trophy on a challenge basis between the Taupo and Rotorua midweek tennis groups.

The photo shows the two team captains at the inaugural event with the Bell Trophy, which was won by Rotorua Tennis Club that first year.
