There was a good turn out of lawn bowlers for the final sponsored three-bowl progressive tournament of the summer on the Harcourt’s Taupo Bowling Club greens on Sunday.
The blustery south-westerly winds made for challenging conditions for the bowlers with the overall success for the best skip on the day going to the ever-consistent veteran Rick Whittaker with three wins from three and 32 points. Second prize for the skips was taken out by Vern Hobbs with his two wins netting the player 27 points and third prize was won by Caro McLeod 2w/26.
The ever-improving Bill Thomson took the top prize for the winning director after three wins and a massive 42 points from Marlene Jordan 2/31 and Jan Hopkins 2/27. Bevan Choat went though unbeaten as the best of the leads to take first prize 3/36, only just edging out top junior bowler Kirsty Byloo who was also unbeaten with 34 points for second prize. Prize for the third best lead was won by the delightful Verona Billing 2w/30.
Summer closing day for the club is next Sunday, with a good turn out expected for the on-green bowling action from 9.30am and the season prize giving to follow in the afternoon.
